Jeremiah’s Room Renovation: Day 5-8

So on Friday I had a girls night planned with my sis and friends…while I was gone Billy’s dad came over to help him tear up the floor…and I came home to this!!!

oh and isn’t this just lovely…

DSCN8121

yeah..that’s a wall….with no support underneath it.  I mean seriously…who built this house?!?!  Anyways, on with the project.  So Billy and his dad took out all of the flooring and installed new subfloor in…

DSCN8130

isn’t it pretty!  Friday after work Billy went and checked out another flooring store here in town and found a great deal on some hardwood flooring that’s spill-proof and stain proof…perfect for a kids room!

DSCN8122    DSCN8124

and yes that is Jeremiah’s door leaning on the wall there…I love this hardwood flooring!  Of course over Skype, Jeremiah noticed right away it wasn’t the same shade of wood as the one he picked out…Here’s the new floor, almost done!

That’s what they did over the weekend…Yesterday (Day 8) I painted the walls with the primer, and I gotta admit, I kinda like the darker gray better!

DSCN8143      DSCN8145

that’s what I could reach without a step stool..but I got one and finished it…

DSCN8146  DSCN8147

we left a little bit of room at the top for the white crown molding to fit in and so we don’t paint the ceiling!  I also painted inside of the closet.

So today..Day 9 I am drawing up a closet design for us to use so I can go get all that stuff..plus ordering a rug and other miscellaneous things online.  Not that Jeremiah isn’t spoiled enough already…we decided to do away with his 19” LCD tv and give him our 32” LCD from our bedroom since we don’t use it anyways (plus we want a bigger one for the living room and the current living room tv will then go in our room).

Jeremiah’s Room Renovation: Day 3 & 4…

So on “Day 2” I went and got the knockdown texture…wow…$13 a can!   Anyways, I still couldn’t decide between the 2 different shades of tan/brown that I had so I didn’t get any paint that day.  When Billy got home he sprayed the texture on the walls….there were a lot of flat spots that had been “repaired” that needed the texture added back to it…

DSCN8096    DSCN8097

well that’s just 2 of the walls..but you get the picture…We also determined what we are going to do with his closet…check out this link!  I love this!!!

So last night we headed to Lowe’s determined to get paint and decide on which shade of tan/brown to get!  While looking at the paint we noticed those little cards that have a pic of a room and the 4 colors used in it…and Billy says “Gray would be a cool ‘boys’ room color…tan/brown is more adult”…GENIUS!  (but don’t tell him I said that *wink*)  So we walked out with a gallon of primer and a gallon of Bay Waves…so beachy sounding!  Here’s what it looks like…this is up against our living room wall…

DSCN8104

It’s the lighter one on the left…it looks really light against other colors..almost white…but I assure you its not.

So after we got home Billy got to work tearing up the closet…here’s the before and after!

DSCN8094        DSCN8100

So on the left side he cut out about 15 inches and 4 inches on the right.  You can’t really tell much in the pics but I assure you…it’s a big difference!  I’m gonna hold out on painting just yet until we do the new chipboard/floor this weekend…just to prevent any accidental scrapes when tearing the floor out against by beautiful paint…so my job today…is this…

DSCN8101    DSCN8102

yeop clean-up…I think I got the short end of the stick on this one..he got to tear up stuff…and I gotta clean it up…oh well…

Jeremiah’s Room Renovation: Day 2….oh boy!

I just want to start off by saying…we got a lot done yesterday.  Completely emptied Jeremiah’s room out and walls are bare (well minus his TV and Roku..we’re gonna use that)…and so is the floor.

   DSCN8094

I know right…we’re AMAZING!  And here’s the “oh boy…” part of the title…

DSCN8091

Yeah…you read that right…it says “THIS SIDE DOWN”…and its facing up…geniuses built this house I tell ya!  And if that’s not bad enough…

DSCN8095

It’s all nasty and can’t really tell in this pic BUT where all the edges meet the boards are buckled…In all honesty though we weren’t expecting anything different.  We have found over the past 2 years living here that there is a lot of “cheap” ways that they redid things around here and a lot of stuff the inspector did not find…yay for us.  Luckily Billy is a construction type guy…So our new plans….Rip up all the chipboard in the floor and completely re-do the floor this weekend before putting the hardwood in…oh and FYI…we decided against the bamboo flooring since it dents so very easily…and by easily I mean barely tapping it.

My plans for today “Day 2” is to go and get a few cans of knockdown texture and the tan paint for the room so we can hopefully get started on that tonight.  In the mean time…here is what our dining room looks like now!

who’da thunk we could fit ALL of that in his tiny little room!  Amazing!  Needless to say that will be gone through as well as we re-infiltrate it back into his room…*sigh

Jeremiah’s Room Renovation: Day 1

So while Jeremiah is gone visiting his dad and his family on the east coast for the next 3 weeks, Billy and I are going to be remodeling his room!  He knows we are working on it and he picked out the flooring for it but other than that…he doesn’t know anything.  So the plan is to tear out the horrible, disgusting, 80’s style shag carpet (its at least not puke green like ones I had when I was little and is the newer version of it) and put in bamboo hardwood floors..I know, bamboo isn’t a “hard” wood but its still called it!  We are repainting to a tan and having orange, blue, green and dark gray accents so make a more “big boy” room for him.  We are also re-doing his closet to make it more usable and practical by adding a desk in there and have clothes off to the side (*see links at the bottom).  So since this is day 1 we are gonna be packing up his room and hopefully *fingers crossed* have it empty or at least most of the way empty tonight….So here’s the before pics!

Yeah yeah yeah I know his room is tiny…..but actually since I moved his bed up against the wall where it is in the pics it has given him a lot more space.  Also…excuse the mess…this is from frantically packing him at the last second Thursday night and leaving in a hurry Friday to get up to St. Louis.

My lil bike rider!

Okay, so this was Sunday night…I know I know…shame on me for just now posting it…*smacks hand*.  Well we were all in the garage saying bye to Arlie (Billy’s grandpa) when Billy got Jer’s bike down.  So we put his helmet on and he hopped on his bike AND….sat there.  It took a while and to be completely honest got a little frustrating just because it’s a hard thing to explain how to pedal a bike.  “Push your feet down”, “No not back, forward”, “Pedal”, “Like this *feet in the air making pedal motion*”.  Then out of nowhere…he just took off!

DSC_0381

I think he understood the entire time…he was just holding out on us!

DSC_0378

Every time he came in the garage he had to crash into the trash cans…

DSC_0380

He did have some trouble that night simply because he was barefoot.  So yesterday we went back out with shoes on and it was as if he was riding for years!!!  Well besides the fact that he is only 3….
